BCAAs: reduce muscle fatigue and increase energy production

Branched chain amino acids are a group of three essential amino acids that play a big role in maintaining and balancing muscle mass. BCAAs are critical for muscle growth and producing energy to help you perform better and longer when you exercise. If you find yourself frequently experiencing muscle fatigue and soreness (and not achieving the lean body you were hoping for) then amino acids might be a good solution for you. Taking BCAAs before and after exercise can remarkably help decrease muscle soreness, fatigue and burn more fat within the body.

The benefits of including an amino acid supplement in your diet include:

  • Significantly helps you energise before a workout
  • Increases protein synthesis
  • Enhances your strength and endurance
  • Spares your muscle levels of BCAAs (which get used for fuel during workouts)
  • Reduces the rate of protein break down
  • Stimulates muscle growth for hours after a workout
  • Rapidly absorbed into the bloodstream

What is a branched chain amino acid?

The term "branched chain" refers to the molecular structure. BCAAs are essential nutrients that can be found in any food containing proteins like meat, dairy and vegetables. BCAAs are comprised of three amino acids- leucine, valine and isoleucine, which directly benefit muscles during exercise.

Nonessential amino acids can be made by the body, while essential amino acids cannot be made by the body, so we must get them from our diet. Your body needs a supply of all the amino acids so that it can build the wide variety of proteins it needs.

Leucine contributes to muscle protein synthesis, while isoleucine helps glucose uptake into cells. There is still more research needed to determine valine’s role in a BCAA supplement.

How to take branched-chain amino acids

The amount of BCAAs you take depends on your fitness goals.

They can be consumed pre-workout, during a workout with some juice, post-workout or during the day if you are experiencing muscle fatigue and soreness.

In terms of dosage, we recommend to follow the product guidelines. Different capsules have different dosage recommendations, however, they generally are similar across brands.
